SC-193 Wulfenite on Dolomite
Tsumeb, Namibia
Miniature, 5.5 x 5 x 3 cm

A sharp display miniature with a glassy , fat 2.1-cm wulfenite crystal perched atop matrix. Unfortunately, it DOES admittedly have a few very small chips on the top edge, but it is that close to being a world class wulfenite, and without the world class price.

SC-13 Wulfenite (SOLD)
Tsumeb, Namibia
ex. Zweibels
Small Cabinet, 9 x 7 x 4 cm

John Schneider Photo

A sharp display specimen with unbelieveably lustrous and glassy crystals, to 3 cm, perched delicately atop matrix. This specimen also has a bright red-orange color to it. The crystals are superficially a little irregular at the edges where there are a few zigs and zags that at first look like a problem, but nevertheless on close inspection they are complete and undamaged. It went from the Zweibels to Melissa Gressman and only recently to the Sussmans in 2002. It is a MAJOR specimen not just for the locality, but for the species.

This is an absolute killer, to my mind the best wulfenite in the collection. It is a large miniature with unbelieveably lustrous and glassy crystals, to 3 cm, perched atop matrix. The crystal is "silky" in appearance, with a natural wet look to it. It is pristine and undamaged. MOREOEVER, it has a 45-degree-offset phantom of "chillagite" within. Chillagite is a discredited varietal name for wulfenite that has oriented inclusions of molybdenum, giving a blue color. In this case, the phantom boundary is indeed slightly blue, and most dramatic! It is a MAJOR specimen not just for the locality, but for the species. From the Nauke Oechslin Collection, purchased in Africa in the early 2000: a noted collection mentioned in Gebhard’s Tsumeb books.

SC-66 Wulfenite on Cobaltian Dolomite (SOLD)
Tsumeb, Namibia
Cabinet, 10 x 7 x 4 cm

Probably by consensus one of the most dramatic pieces in the whole collection, this piece features a 2 cm wulfenite perched on a plate of brilliant neon pink dolomite, and comes from the one pocket ever found that produced such amazing contrast. It is also one of the largest known specimens from that pocket. ex. Lange Collection

SC-104 Wulfenite on Cobaltian Dolomite (SOLD)

This piece features a multiple wulfenite crystals perched on a plate of rich pink dolomite, and comes from the one pocket ever found that produced such amazing contrast. It is an excellent example at a fair price , for this material, especially compared to the price needed for the above because of its admittedly exceptional color. By woirldwide standards, this wulfenite isn't the top tier, but as a combination it IS one of the world's premier mineral combos and one that any major Tsumeb collection needs to have represented.

SC-194 Wulfenite

This is one of the few larger Tsumeb wulfenites that I have ever really fallen in love with, because of the size and quality of the dominant crystal, which is exceptional for Tsumeb, and its dramatic display qualities. The large crystal is almost an inch across, and is a stout, thick crystal with excellent transparency and sharp beveled edges. You can read right through it! All in all, I think this one a relative bargain and a good enough wulfenite even by worldwide standards that it will impress those who generally haven't owned a Tsumeb wulfenite before, as good ones are so uncommon. From the Edward David Collection, sold in 1993.

SC-98 Wulfenite on Dolomite (SOLD)
Tsumeb, Namibia
Large Miniature, 6 x 4 x 3 cm

Wow! This pic says it all....translucent, glistening, orange-yellow crystals to 2 cm, perched on a sprig of dolomite, make this a to-die-for Large Miniature! It is not as gemmy as some others here, but it IS gorgeous, and the almost-metallic lustre is shocking!
