A cabinet-sized very 3-dimensional specimen of a plate of rock matrix completely carpeted by complexly crystallized multifaceted cuprian smithsonite xls. they are individually small, altogether very pretty. The carpet wraps around sides and top. Large cu-smiths are rare, as you know, and this one is in pretty good shape with just one ding in the lower-front of the front face, but otherwise undamaged on that face

SC-131 Cuprian Smithsonite coating cerussite
Tsumeb, Namibia
Small Cabinet, 6.5 x 5 x 3 cm

John Schneider Photos

A stunning specimen with a sparkling druse of small crystals of light-sea-bluegreen smithsonite coating almost completely one side of a cluster of cerussites perched on rock matrix. Pristine and unusual! It has a long history, and originated with the Zweibels in the 1970's, who sold it to Marion Stuart (the Carnation heiress), and from there it was sold to the Sussmans when her collection was broken up several years ago.

SC-143 Cuprian Smithsonite with Dolomite
Tsumeb, Namibia
ex. Willy Israel Collection
Small Cabinet, 6 x 5 x 5 cm

Marshall and Charlotte bought this as much for it being a relative bargain, I think, as for the unusual association with dolomite, which liberally coats the backside. They liked weird associations. However, since the knob isn't complete all around, you get a relative deal on a good disaply-sized cu-smithsonite since it still looks great from the front! Pristine and sparkly specimen.

A magnificent specimen widely regarded as one of the finest crystallized blue-green smithsonites in the world, for the richness of color; sharpness of crystals; and overall size and display of the specimen. It was in the personal collection of the Zweibels and long-disappeared into a black hole for decades before it was offered to the Sussmans in the 1990's.

This gorgeous specimen is composed of thousands of bright, sugary, drusy smithsonite crystals of the limiest Life-Saver green color, completely carpeting a 3-dimensional matrix! It is truly breathtaking, for shee visual impact if not for crystallography.

A magnificent specimen widely regarded as one of the finest crystallized blue-green smithsonites in the world, for the richness of color; size of the isolated crystals; and overall size and display impact of the specimen. It was in the personal collection of the Zweibels and long-disappeared into a black hole for decades before it was offered to the Sussmans in the late 1990's, where it was one of their prized specimens and one of the top 5 pieces in the collection. The color is BETTER in person, even: NEON blue!

This spectacular combination piece has been pronounced by several people familiar with the pocket, found in the late 1970's, to be the best display specimen for its combination of brilliant cerussite twins sprinkled with naturally-lustrous, sugary, blue-green smithsonite. All sits on a sparkling matrix of drusy mottramite, by way of background! The piece was found in an old collection by Bill Pinch, later sold to Charlie Key, and eventually to the Sussmans (it has since been trimmed and cleaned). This material is quite odd smithsonite, and in fact is often mislabelled as "willemite" when the odd piece turns up. Even in the Sacco Collection book, it is so mislabelled. The specimen is, by the way, pristine and naturally lustrous and colorful, if anything even better than as shown.
