SC-222 Calcite on Mottramite hollow cast
Tsumeb, Namibia
Small Cabinet, 8 x 4.5 x 3.5 cm

Another truly unusual and periscope-like specimen, consisting of a hollow tube of Mottramite cast after some now-missing mineral, and coated with translucent, disc-shaped rhombohedral calcite crystals. It looks just like a periscope, even more so than the last piece! Only very minor damage to this delicate and near-pristine, 360-degree specimen!

SC-177 Calcite with oriented inclusions of Mottramite - $2750
Tsumeb, Namibia
ex. EM Gunnell collection
Cabinet, 10 x 7 x 6 cm

A stunning specimen of this classic Tsumeb calcite style, with forest-green dutftite included inside the calcite crystals but only along certain axes, creating an amazing visual effect! This is one of the better examples of this material for its size, and comes from the noted collection of Colorado dealer and collector Mitch Gunnell.

MU91 - Calcite with Malachite and Duftite
Tsumeb Mine, Tsumeb, Namibia
Small Cabinet, 6.7 x 5.5 x 4.4 cm

Pristine, perfect, transparent disc-shaped crystals set off nicely on an aesthetic matrix! This specimen is a calcite of the highest quality ! I need to move it over to the Tsumeb gallery....

SC-72 Calcite included by Hematite (SOLD)
Tsumeb, Namibia
Cabinet, 14 x 10 x 4 cm

John Schneider Photo

A shocking calcite specimen where the crystals are so heavily included by hematite that they look almost like a different species entirely. High lustre and pristine condition make this a unique and unusually fine specimen, especially as calcites of this size and condition are even more uncommon from Tsumeb than from other localities. It was purchased from Charlie Key in 2000

SC-112 Calcite (Plumbian) with Duftite (SOLD)
Tsumeb, Namibia
ex. Willy Israel Collection
Cabinet, 10 x 8 x 5 cm

An unusual specimen showcasing stark color contrast between oriented duftite dusting and the snow-white rhombohedra of calcite that has an extra-high lead content, a varietal unique to Tsumeb.

SC-89 Calcite and Dolomite with Duftite (SOLD)
Tsumeb, Namibia
ex. jp glidden collection
Small Cabinet, 9.5 x 6 x 6 cm

John Schneider Photo

A very showy specimen featuring an unusually well-preserved large rhombohedral crystal perched on contrasting matrix (duftite-coated dolomite). Complete save for some contact on the back, this is as fine a Tsumeb calcite for the size and crystal form as you could ask for.

SC-108 Calcite and Dolomite with Duftite
Tsumeb, Namibia
Cabinet, 10 x 6 x 4 cm

A really unusual and interesting calcite specimen featuring the classic sharp rhombohedra that Tsumeb is most famous for, but in a context that shows a lot of character. The open vug is chock-full of sparkling, gemmy rhombs, and the contrast with the bright grassy-green duftite makes the piece colorful as well as sculptural.

SC-23 Calcite incl. by Hematite and Duftite (SOLD)
Tsumeb, Namibia
Cabinet, 12 x 11 x 7 cm

John Schneider Photo

This is a most unusual specimen, which I call "fire and grass", that they purchased in Namibia in 1987. the leftmost third of the specimen is included by bright green duftite and the rightmost 2/3 by ruddy red-orange hematite, with very little admixture in-between. I have never seen another piece like this from Tsumeb, with such a mix. The lustre, as you can tell, is phenomenal and the piece is near pristine. One of my personal calcite favorites!

SC-136 Calcite on Dolomite stalactites
Tsumeb, Namibia
Ex. Willy Israel Collection
Cabinet, 10 x 8 x 7 cm

This unusual specimen is visually impressive in person, and consists of scallop-shaped yellow calcite crystals enveloping and topping a double-stalactite of dolomite.

SC-132 Calcite (twinned) (SOLD)
Tsumeb, Namibia
ex. Zweibels
Small Miniature/Toenail, 3 x 3 x 2 cm

John Schneider Photo

WOW! Talk about "fine," this twin of Chinese quality is pound for pound the finest Tsumeb calcite I have ever seen. Small, yes, but just incredible quality. This pristine , matrix specimen was purchased directly from the Zweibels in 1992 and has been since then the finest miniature calcite (or large thumbnail) known to me from Tsumeb (by way of qualifying that statement, which I do believe, I should add..."for my tastes").

SC-120 Calcite with dendritic Mottramite inclusions (floater) (SOLD)
Tsumeb, Namibia
Miniature, 5 x 4.5 x 3 cm

A unique specimen, so richly included with dendritic mottramite that there might even be more mottramite than calcite inside of it! I think the pics pretty much show how interesting, colorful, and dramatic it is...both sides are pristine, and shown in the images. Moreover, it is a floater.

SC-100 Calcite on crystallized Malachite (SOLD)
Tsumeb, Namibia
ex. Los Angeles County Museum, Marion Stuart Collections
Large Cabinet, 16 x 7.5 x 8 cm

John Schneider Photo

This dramatic piece is one of the most astonishing , visually-impacting calcite specimens I have ever seen. It features sparkling, lustrous, pristine yellow calcites perched on the most glorious carpet of sparkling, chatoyant malachite you've ever seen (even better in person).

Prosper Williams sold it in 1976 to the Los Angeles County Museum, from whence it was traded to the Marion Stuart Collection in a rare deaccession in 1977. It was the Sussman's first choice specimen when the Stuart collection was broken up at Tucson in 2000, and they waited in line to be the very first people into Dave Bunk's booth at the opening of the show. I know this because myself, Steve Neely, Steve Smale, and a number of others also really wanted this specimen at the time and we were all waiting in line BEHIND Marshall's bald head to get it on the offchance he did not (grumble...).
