This specimen, shapeed like a tree, stands on its own and displays well from either side. The exquisite crystallization is a rarity for Tsumeb, especially when combined with the overall aesthetics of the piece. This piece is regarded as one of the single most aesthetic large copper specimens from Tsumeb, which really did NOT produce a heckuva lot of native copper in good crystallized specimens.

SC-80 Mottramite - (SOLD)
Tsumeb, Namibia
Large Cabinet, 16 x 11 x 10 cm

John Schneider photo

A striking specimen entirely composed of various shades of botryoidal mottramite on massive mottramite. It is truly gorgeous for the species, and just as a large specimen from Tsumeb for any species. It was purchased from the Zweibels in 1994

SC-111 Cuprite on Malachite
Tsumeb, Namibia
ex. Evan Jones collection
Miniature, 5.5 x 4 x 2 cm

John Schneider photo

A stunning specimen of Christamas-colors, with brilliant red cuprite of unusual quality for Tsumeb perched on green-colored calcite matrix. This was , to me, the premier cuprite specimen in the collection and it really leaps out, as it is incredibly sparkly in person and the many facets reflect light every which way. Evan Jones collection, purchased from Kristalle and previously in the Jim Thompson collection

SC-220 Cerussite on Copper
Tsumeb, Namibia
Miniature, 5 x 5 x 3.5 cm

An interesting association, as copper and cerussite occur only rarely together even at this prolific locality and then in sparse association, in almost all cases. This piece features thick, gemmy cerussite crystals in a large mass of copper, and thus is unusual enough to warrant inclusion in their rarities suite because of it. There is some minor chipping to the cerussite crystals, hence the low price, but it still displays beautifully and is important for the richness of the combination..

SC-209 Chalcotrichite included in Quartz
Tsumeb, Namibia
Miniature, 4.5 x 4 x 3.5 cm

A somewhat unique specimen, with brilliant flaming-red chalcotrichite including small quartz crystals!

SC-221 Silver - (SOLD)
Tsumeb, Namibia
ex. Nauke Oechslin Collection
Miniature, 4 x 3.5 x 1.25 cm

For native elements, Tsumeb has always been a bit disappointing in terms of specimen recovery: especially for silver, of which so few fine specimens are known and of those, most are simply not display-worthy. This brilliant piece, however, is quite an exception! It features exquisite OCTAHEDRAL silver crystals to 3 mm set in massive silver, with spots of cuprian adamite to prove the locality is legit! In person, it is a much richer, silvery tone than it appears. Specimens of this richness are EXTREMELY RARE and hard to come by. The famous Barlow collection Tsumeb silver illustrated in his book, which I handled at one time, had perhaps 1/10th the silver as does this specimen though of course much more size and heft in the rocky matrix. I would choose this one every time, for its attractive, brilliant display qualities. From the Nauke Oechslin Collection, purchased in Africa in the early 2000: a noted collection mentioned in Gebhard’s Tsumeb books.

SC-210 Quartz with Wulfenite (SOLD)
Tsumeb, Namibia
Small Miniature, 3.5 x 3 x 2 cm

This is one of the miniatures I have wanted since I first saw the Sussman collection, for sheer weirdness and uniqueness. It features an aesthetic, doubly-terminated quartz crystal perched up on a stalk of matrix and associated with a small orange wulfenite crystal. There is some minor damage to the lower termination of the quartz but only on the rear of it, not the display face. Otherwise the quartz is complete and well-formed all around. Just a quartz, but a VERY significant one for the locality and a display-quality miniature to boot!

SC-35 Copper with Quartz - (SOLD)
Tsumeb, Namibia
ex. Nauke Oechslin Collection
Large Cabinet, 16 x 10 x 9 cm

John Schneider photo

This important piece is widely regarded as the finest large Tsumeb copper in private hands. It is from the Nauke Oechslin Collection, purchased in Africa in the early 2000: a noted collection mentioned in Gebhard’s Tsumeb books. HEFTY, solid, 3-dimensional piece, completely crysatllized all around!
